tagged … a music meme

i got tagged for a music meme by gabriel, and since i have done two reading memes this month this would be a nice one to do, although he hasn’t responded to my name spelling meme earlier this month. no idea if i can come up with five people to tag, but i’ll see …

Assignment: Think of THE song that most inspires you to write, whether it gives you an idea for a story, script or just puts you into a better frame of mind AND/OR peek into the lyrics and find a verse that sums up the theme of whatever project it is you’re working on. If possible, post a video of the song to convey to readers the full context of the song and the mood it puts you into. Finally, send the assignment to five other writers to do as well.

i don’t think it is possible to choose one song that does all this, especially because this would mean listening to the same song over and over again, which i don’t think would be very inspiring.
i don’t usually look for inspiration to write in music, mostly because i love to get my head pretty much clear of words and noise so there’s room for my own words to start lining up. i do, however, have music that puts me into a better frame of mind, with lyrics that speak to me and that i find beautifully written, so in a way you could say it inspires me.
almost everything written and performed by joni mitchell does that for me. she’s also the artist that has been “with me” for the longest time, i discovered he about 25 years ago and i never tire of her beautiful music, her brilliant lyrics or her lovely voice.
