after the weekend

just a quick post before i crash for today: i’m home, i’m very well, probably gained a few pounds, and i had the most terrific weekend.

we had a lovely time on the netherlands’ coast, the weather was friendly, only a very little rain on saturday and that was after dark when we were cuddled up digesting our pancakes. and we had the most beautiful weather on sunday, a bright blue sky and sun all day. it was so clear and bright and crisp that i thought it would be possible to see the british coast (of course that’s not possible, but that’s what it felt like). encouraged by our brave three mile walk on saturday we walked along the beach to the next coast town which happens to be three miles away, too. we had a snack and hot chocolate there and headed for the bus stop to catch a bus back to our nest. guess what? no bus on sunday! and idiots that we are, instead of thinking of catching a cab, we walked back. that makes a six mile walk. that’s about the biggest distance grischa has walked in over a year, since before his knee surgery. and he has a broken toe (that’s been healing, okay, but is making him walk a little lopsided). he almost gave up on the last mile. i’m very glad he didn’t just sit down and start to cry, i’m not sure if i could have carried him. in the end we made it home but i’m not sure what the consequences will be. his knee has been hurting since that walk and i’m praying that it’s just a little overstrained, not damaged.

so now i’m tired from the long drive home — hungry, cold and tired to be exact. i think i’m going to cuddle up with my sweetheart now.
