This really feels like November …
Cold, wet, and gray, yes, this must be November. Last week had everything, temperatures between 55 and 30°F, rain, hail, snow, storm and lots and lots of big, wet, dirty clouds hanging so low they touch my roof. Grischa and I spent Monday to Wednesday on the Dutch North Sea shore, where we had our first long walk together – two years ago exactly. We were lucky, it was quite warm and dry, at least when we were outside, it only started to rain when we left for Essen Wednesday afternoon, then on Thursday the rain turned to snow … then to rain again … then to sleet …
We started our trip with a short visit to Amsterdam, did a little shopping (which I’m still very excited about) then hurried on to the coast to have pancakes and hot chocolate. We had to find another hotel, the one we stayed in the last time has closed down, unfortunately, it was really a cozy little place. But the one we found now is just as good, and we got one of the nicest rooms that looks like a miniature honeymoon suite, with a four-poster-bed with canopy, can you believe it.
Well, we didn’t spend all the time in bed, we took long walks to clear our heads of the last weeks work, stress and trouble. Nothing ever makes you feel as good as that wind and the sound of the waves and the smell of the sea.
Before we left for our trip I spent two weeks in Wulfen in my father’s house while he was on vacation – his dog is pretty ancient now and doesn’t like to be moved around too much – two strange weeks, partly depressing because I don’t really feel at home there any more, and maybe because my relationship with my father is a little strained at the moment. I guess I was really glad to get away after my father was back, maybe that made me enjoy the trip to Amsterdam and Bergen even more.
Well, I guess that’s about all that’s worth telling of the last couple of weeks, the rest was work and other everyday stuff, nothing much.
Now I’m gonna run over to Heike’s place and we’ll settle down in front of a nice plate of pasta …
